Luminor bank warns of QR code phishing in Lithuania
Luminor bank has reported the first instances of quishing, or QR code phishing, occurring in Lithuania. Criminals are targeting citizens by placing fraudulent QR codes over legitimate ones in public spaces, such as electric vehicle charging stations and parking lots.
When a user scans the fake code, they are redirected to a counterfeit website designed to mimic a legitimate service provider's payment environment. Once the victim enters their credit card or other sensitive information, the data is captured by criminals. Experts warn that because people often scan codes quickly to complete transactions, they may not notice the discrepancy between the fake and real codes.
