Lumir Abdixhiku faces internal LDK push for removal after June election

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) won 18 seats in the 7 June parliamentary election, but the result sparked discontent within the party. A faction collected signatures to trigger a vote of no confidence on party leader Lumir Abdixhiku; one‑third of the required signatures have reportedly been gathered, yet LDK officials have declined to comment. Candidate for president Vjosa Osmani also remained silent on the petition.

LDK branches abroad, including those in the Benelux region and Austria, issued letters urging the central leadership to analyse the electoral process and strengthen the party. Meanwhile, Abdixhiku met EU Parliament reporter Riho Terras, discussing the post‑election political situation, certification of results by the Central Election Commission, and the need to establish new state institutions quickly.

Analyst Imer Mushkolaj noted that there are currently no signals of willingness from LDK to form a coalition with the Vetëvendosje (LVV) movement, indicating that coalition talks remain stalled as internal leadership disputes continue.
