Lumière Summit addresses AI impact on global cinema

The inaugural Lumière Summit, held in Saint-Paul de Vence, France, convened over 200 global leaders and industry stakeholders to address the evolving landscape of the film and digital media sectors. Co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, the forum brought together participants from more than 55 countries to discuss the challenges posed by generative artificial intelligence and the rise of free digital platforms.

Key discussion areas included the impact of AI on creative industries, the necessity of promoting media literacy from an early age, and the development of new economic models for film, television, animation, and video games. The summit aimed to foster international cooperation, including efforts to establish global governance for cinema and identify new financing methods for creators.

High-level attendees included Nigeria’s Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa. The event highlighted France’s role in supporting visual and electronic arts globally, emphasizing ongoing collaborations with nations such as Nigeria to protect independent cinema and traditional creative processes.
