Lumière Summit adopts 15 principles to protect human creativity from AI

The Lumière Summit, held in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, concluded with the adoption of the Lumière Declaration. Co-chaired by Emmanuel Macron and Lee Jae Myung, the summit brought together government representatives, corporations, and cultural institutions from over 55 countries to discuss the future of audiovisual media.

The declaration outlines 15 principles focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on the industry. Key tenets include the defense of human creativity as the foundation of audiovisual works, asserting that AI should serve to enhance rather than replace human creators. The document also addresses issues such as the preservation of physical audiovisual archives, piracy, international co-production, and the collective experience of cinema.

Additionally, the summit proposed an educational initiative for image literacy in partnership with UNESCO. The event included discussions on the evolving relationship between traditional broadcasters and digital streaming platforms, featuring industry leaders from companies such as Gaumont Télévision, Prime Video, and Globo.
