Luna named most popular name for dogs and cats

Luna has emerged as the most popular name for both dogs and cats. Data regarding pet naming trends shows that Luna holds the top position for female dogs and remains a leading choice for cats as well.

For dogs, Luna is followed by Teddy, Max, Bella, and Pip. Many popular dog names, such as Joep, Charlie, and Puck, resemble human names. For cats, the top names include Luna, followed by Simba and Nala, reflecting the influence of pop culture such as The Lion King. The top five cat names are completed by Coco and Pip.

Trends indicate a preference for short, one- or two-syllable names like Pip, Bo, Mia, Max, and Sam, which are practical for calling pets. While many names have an international appeal, such as Bobby, Teddy, and Cooper, traditional Dutch names like Moos, Guus, and Joep also remain common.
