Luna Rossa leads America’s Cup preliminary regatta in Naples

Luna Rossa holds the overall lead in the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta in the Bay of Naples following the second day of competition. The senior team, led by skipper Peter Burling and co-helm Marco Gradoni, has accumulated 51 points, maintaining an 8-point advantage over Emirates Team New Zealand (43 points) and a 14-point lead over Alinghi (38 points).

The regatta has faced challenging wind conditions, with gusts reaching up to 21 knots. While Luna Rossa has demonstrated consistency with a series of strong finishes, the La Roche-Posay Racing Team emerged as a significant competitor, securing two victories during the second day despite facing technical setbacks and a capsize.

The event has also driven significant local interest, with officials reporting approximately 770,000 visitors to Naples during the preliminary period, contributing to high hotel occupancy. The competition is set to conclude with a final match race to determine the winner of this phase.
