Luna Tavares-Fenner undergoes facial reconstruction for rare condition

Luna Tavares-Fenner, a Brazilian-American child born in Florida, has undergone extensive medical treatments for a rare condition known as a giant congenital melanocytic nevus. The condition caused a large dark birthmark covering more than 80% of her face, including her forehead, nose, and eyelids.

To address both medical risks, such as the potential for melanoma, and psychological concerns regarding bullying and well-being, Luna has undergone various procedures including skin grafts, medication, and photodynamic therapy. In July 2026, she underwent a significant facial reconstruction surgery in Saint Petersburg, Russia, as part of a long-term international medical journey involving care in both the United States and Russia.
