Lunar Base Plans Address Debris Risks and Propose 3D‑Printed Moon Temple
Research by the Chinese Academy of Sciences examined debris clouds in distant retrograde orbits between Earth and the Moon, assessing collision hazards for upcoming missions such as NASA's Artemis program, China's International Lunar Research Station, and other national and commercial lunar projects. The study aims to inform safety guidelines and mitigation strategies as traffic to the cislunar region increases.
Separately, European Space Agency designer Jorge Mañes Rubio has proposed a 3‑D‑printed Moon Temple to serve as a cultural and gathering hub at a future astronaut base on the lunar South Pole. The concept envisions a cosmopolitan “United Nations of astronauts” that could shape a new shared spacefaring culture, complementing planned infrastructure and habitats slated for the late 2020s.
