Lunar eclipse visible in White Rock and South Surrey
Residents in White Rock and South Surrey observed a deep partial lunar eclipse on the night of August 27, 2026. The event featured a coppery hue, with 96.3 per cent of the moon passing through the Earth’s umbra, or central shadow.
According to NASA, this eclipse is part of the Saros 13 series. Due to the nature of this series, the next eclipse of this type will not occur until September 7, 2044. The Canadian Space Agency noted that lunar eclipses are among the most easily observable astronomical phenomena, requiring no special equipment for viewing.
While billions had the opportunity to view the event, only approximately 12 per cent of the global population was able to see this specific eclipse from start to finish.
