Lunar eclipse visible over Hungary

A partial lunar eclipse occurred in the early morning hours of August 28, visible across Hungary. The phenomenon began at 3:24 AM as the Moon entered Earth's penumbra, with the partial phase starting at 4:33 AM.

The most visually striking moment occurred around 5:20 AM, when Earth's shadow covered more than half of the Moon's surface. During this period, the Moon took on an orange-red hue, a color caused by Earth's atmosphere refracting sunlight toward the Moon, similar to the effect seen during sunsets.

At its maximum, the eclipse reached 96 percent coverage. However, because the Moon was low on the western horizon at approximately 12.5 degrees, the peak of the eclipse was not visible from all parts of Hungary before the Moon set below the horizon at 5:59 AM. The next lunar eclipse visible from Hungary is expected in 2028.
