Lund council launches garden‑city housing districts to keep families

Lund municipal leaders Rasmus Törnblom (Moderate) and Anders Almgren (Social Democrat) announced a plan to build five new “garden‑city” districts composed mainly of small‑house homes. The proposal aims to provide affordable family‑friendly housing, allowing families to stay in Lund rather than move elsewhere.

Törnblom said the initiative will give residents “their own patch of grass, a garden and space for children,” while Almgren criticised the national lack of a coherent housing policy. Both leaders framed the scheme as a local solution to the broader Swedish housing shortage, calling it a necessary “own‑home movement.”
