Lund official urges NCC to withdraw quarry application

Anders Almgren, the Social Democratic municipal commissioner in Lund, has called on the construction company NCC to withdraw its application for a new quarry in Rögleskogen. Almgren expressed surprise at the company's decision to reapply following a 2024 rejection by the Land and Environment Court regarding the expansion of an existing quarry.

Local officials are reportedly moving toward a rejection of the proposal. While acknowledging the societal need for stone materials for housing and infrastructure, Almgren suggested that increased recycling and more suitable locations further from sensitive environments and residential areas should be prioritized. The municipal executive board is scheduled to process the matter on September 2.
