Lundin mining operations impacted by storms and new discoveries
Lundin Mining has reported operational disruptions at its Caserones and Candelaria sites in Chile’s Atacama region due to a second severe winter storm. The extreme weather, characterized by heavy snowfall and high winds, caused a second power outage on August 14 after damaging a transmission tower. The company has revised its production guidance to account for extended recovery periods and unplanned downtime. Crews are currently working to restore power and repair infrastructure, with full power restoration expected by the end of the week.
Separately, Lundin Gold has announced the discovery of two new copper and gold mineralized systems, named Sandia Noreste and Sandia Sureste, within its Fruta del Norte district in Ecuador. These discoveries increase the number of porphyry centers identified within the company’s concessions to seven. The company aims to present a first resource estimate for the Sandia project in early 2027. Recent drilling has intercepted significant intervals of copper, gold, silver, and molybdenum.
