Lungi Ngidi credits coach Shukri Conrad for career resurgence
South African cricketer Lungi Ngidi has credited his recent resurgence in form to the coaching and communication style of Shukri Conrad. After a period of inconsistent opportunities and frustration regarding his role within the national team, Ngidi noted that Conrad’s approach has significantly boosted his confidence.
Ngidi stated that the primary difference has been the clarity provided by the coach, who treated him as a frontline bowler rather than a backup option. He noted that being told he was “not second-best to anyone” allowed him to play with greater assurance. This shift in perception has coincided with an improvement in his bowling performance over the last 18 months, providing him the freedom to utilize his variations, such as slower balls, more effectively.
