Lunigiana launches tourism project featuring 100 castles
The Lunigiana region in the province of Massa-Carrara is launching a tourism initiative titled ‘La Terra dei 100 Castelli’ (The Land of 100 Castles). Scheduled from September 17 to 20, the event aims to integrate the area's historical fortresses, towers, and manor houses into a permanent, structured tourism product for international markets.
Promoted by the Istituto Valorizzazione Castelli and supported by the Camera di Commercio Toscana Nord Ovest, the project involves a network of municipalities, private owners, and local associations. The program will feature guided tours, cycling routes, tastings, outdoor activities, and musical events, such as jazz concerts at the Castelli di Comano and Monti.
Emanuele Bertocchi, president of the Istituto Valorizzazione Castelli, stated that the initiative seeks to transform the local heritage into an integrated system. The goal is to leverage the region's historical and landscape assets to attract international travelers and create long-term economic value through cooperation between public and private sectors.
