Lunio Energy's Strathalbyn Battery Starts Trading in South Australian Grid
Lunio Energy has commissioned its first utility‑scale battery, the 5 MW/20 MWh Strathalbyn BESS, in South Australia. The system is now connected to the National Electricity Market (NEM) and actively buying and selling electricity, storing excess renewable generation and discharging when demand and prices rise. The battery is operated with OptiGrid’s OptiBidder platform, which uses AI‑driven forecasting and optimisation to decide charge‑discharge cycles, submit bids to contingency FCAS markets and capture revenue from price volatility. CEO Seth Thuraisingham said the project is the first step in a pipeline of storage assets intended to support South Australia’s high renewable penetration and improve grid stability. OptiGrid’s CEO Sahand Karimi highlighted the platform’s role in turning market complexity into revenue for the asset.
