Lunit presents AI cancer biomarker research at SITC 2026

Medical AI company Lunit is presenting two collaborative research studies at the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC 2026) conference in Phoenix, Arizona. The studies utilize the Lunit SCOPE AI biomarker platform to analyze histological features in ovarian and bladder cancers.

In collaboration with Labcorp, Lunit analyzed tissue from 339 ovarian cancer patients. The research focused on distinguishing between homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) and homologous recombination proficiency (HRP). Using Lunit SCOPE IO to analyze H&E stained slides, researchers found that HRD ovarian cancer showed significantly higher tumor cell density and a tumor mutation burden (TMB) approximately twice as high as the HRP group. An AI model developed by the team also showed a statistically significant correlation between AI-calculated HRD scores and genomic instability scores.

In a separate study with CellCarta, Lunit examined muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients to understand responses to immunotherapy. The research highlighted that successful treatment response is linked not just to the quantity of immune cells, but to their spatial distribution. Responding patients showed increased infiltration of immune cells, specifically T cells positioned close to tumor cells. In contrast, non-responding patients exhibited lower immune infiltration and T cells that were spatially distant from tumor cells and functionally impaired.
