Luque vehicle crash destroys clothing store after multi-car collision

A Toyota Fortuner crashed into a clothing store named ‘Zona’ in central Luque, Paraguay, following a multi-vehicle collision. The driver, 43-year-old Éver Martínez Benítez, was operating the vehicle without license plates at the time of the accident.

Benítez claimed he was driving at high speeds because he believed he was being pursued. The incident began at the intersection of Cerro Corá and Balderrama streets, where the Fortuner collided with a SsangYong Actyon driven by 85-year-old Erenio Jara Sosa. The impact caused the Fortuner to lose control and enter the commercial premises, resulting in significant material damage.

A third vehicle, a Mitsubishi Triton driven by Marcos Benjamín Gómez Dávalos, was also involved. Gómez Dávalos stated he had been following the black Fortuner because it resembled his own vehicle, which is currently reported missing under a judicial complaint for misappropriation. All drivers tested negative during sobriety tests.
