Lurdes Gloria Manuel leads Czech athletics prospects at European Championships
Lurdes Gloria Manuel enters the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham as a top contender for the 400m event. The 21-year-old, a former junior world champion, has demonstrated exceptional form this season, running under 50 seconds four times and setting a personal best of 49.37 seconds. She currently ranks as the second-fastest European in the discipline this season, trailing only Norway's Henriette Jæger.
Other notable Czech athletes face varying circumstances heading into the competition. Javelin thrower Jakub Vadlejch, a former champion, enters with questions surrounding his recent form following recent performances in Rabat, Rome, and Doha. Meanwhile, sprinter Karolína Maňasová has secured a spot directly in the 100m semifinals following a strong performance.
Several members of the Czech team will be absent: Amálie Švábíková will not compete due to pregnancy, and long jumper Radka Juška is sidelined by a hamstring injury. Shot putter Tomáš Staněk and javelin thrower Jan Štefel are expected to compete after recent training and competition adjustments.
