Luís Felipe Salomão assumes presidency of the STJ
Minister Luís Felipe Salomão has officially assumed the presidency of the Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) for the 2026-2028 term. He succeeds Herman Benjamin and will be accompanied by Vice-President Mauro Campbell Marques.
During his inauguration ceremony in Brasília, which was attended by high-ranking officials including Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin and Supreme Court President Edson Fachin, Salomão outlined key priorities for his administration. A central objective is the implementation of a 'relevance filter' for federal questions. This mechanism is designed to streamline the court's workload by ensuring that only appeals involving significant legal, social, economic, or political issues are processed, potentially reducing the volume of cases.
Salomão also emphasized the integration of technology and artificial intelligence to modernize the judiciary and improve transparency and access for citizens. The new leadership will also oversee the Federal Justice Council (CJF).
