Luís Fernandes Pires dies five days after bus collision in Itabirito, Brazil

Luís Fernandes Pires, 59, died on 4 August at Hospital João XXIII in Belo Horizonte after being injured in a collision with a bus at the roundabout of Ponte da Açucena in Itabirito, Minas Gerais, on 30 July. Witnesses said he suddenly struck the side of a bus traveling through the roundabout. Emergency services (SAMU) provided first aid and transported him to the local urgent care unit (UPA) in Itabirito, where his condition worsened, requiring intubation. He was later transferred by the advanced support unit (USA) to Hospital João XXIII, where he remained until his death. Pires was a former resident of the Matozinhos neighbourhood, and his death was announced by a family member on a local Facebook memorial group.
