Luís García Montero recognized by Dominican Senate
The Senate of the Republic of the Dominican Republic has officially recognized the literary career and contributions of Spanish writer and poet Luís García Montero. During the recognition, Senate President Ricardo de los Santos highlighted the essential role of writers in fostering social and educational development. Senator Carlos Gómez noted that García Montero, who has served as the director of the Instituto Cervantes since 2018, has been instrumental in providing platforms for Dominican voices to be heard internationally.
In a separate event during the XXVIII Santo Domingo International Book Fair, García Montero also delivered a keynote lecture praising the work of Dominican poet José Mármol. He described Mármol’s poetry as an exercise in consciousness and ethical reflection regarding contemporary society. García Montero credited Mármol with being a vital promoter of Dominican poetry abroad, particularly in Spain, helping to establish strong cultural links between the two nations.
