Luís Guedes, prominent activist and unionist, dies in Quarteira

Luís Guedes, a prominent activist, unionist, and social figure in Quarteira, has passed away at the age of 95. Known locally as ‘o Guedes’, he was a significant figure in the history of the Loulé municipality and the Algarve region.

Originally from Mourão, Guedes worked in the construction industry, contributing to major regional infrastructure and hotels, including the Faro Airport and the Penina and Eva hotels. Beyond his professional life, he was a dedicated antifascist activist and a vocal advocate for social causes, including movements against tolls on the Via do Infante.

The Municipality of Loulé expressed deep condolences, honoring him as a man of firm convictions and generosity. In June 2025, he was awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit – Silver Grade for his contributions to the community.
