Luís Miguel Rego wins Azores Rally Championship title

Luís Miguel Rego and José Janela have secured the 2026 Azores Rally Championship (CAR) title following their victory at the XLV Explore Santa Maria Rallye. Driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, Rego dominated the asphalt event on Santa Maria island, winning all nine special stages.

Rego finished with a lead of 3:09.55 over second-place finisher Pedro Câmara, who drove an Opel Corsa Rally4. Câmara’s performance also secured him the victory in the 2-Wheel Drive (2RM) category and the Azores Asphalt Rally Trophy. Max Salvador completed the overall podium in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX.

The championship will transition to gravel surfaces for the Volta à Ilha de São Miguel on September 4 and 5.
