Luís Montenegro announces expansion of 20-euro rail pass to Lisbon and Porto

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced that the ‘Green Railway Pass’ will be extended to include urban trains within the Lisbon and Porto metropolitan areas starting in September. The monthly pass will maintain its current cost of 20 euros.

During a speech at the PSD Pontal festival in Quarteira, Montenegro stated that the measure aims to improve mobility for workers and students, as well as to facilitate travel between friends and family. This expansion follows the existing nationwide implementation of the pass for trains, excluding the Alfa Pendular service.

Additionally, Montenegro confirmed that the State has reached an agreement with the Spanish group Pontegadea Inversiones to acquire a 13.7% stake in Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN). He clarified that the government has no intention of renationalizing the company, noting that the acquisition is a strategic move to participate in investment decisions and help lower energy prices.
