Luís Máximo dos Santos to leave Banco de Portugal board

Luís Máximo dos Santos will step down from the Board of Directors of the Banco de Portugal (BdP) at the end of this month. Currently serving as vice-governor, his tenure on the board, which began in June 2016, will officially conclude on October 31.

An official source from the central bank has not provided a specific reason for his departure. Dos Santos has held significant responsibilities within the institution, overseeing the legal, resolution, and investigation and sanctioning departments.

He has also served as president of the Deposit Guarantee Fund and the Resolution Fund, the latter being the entity responsible for bank rescues. His leadership was notably involved in the management of Novo Banco, the institution created following the resolution of Banco Espírito Santo.
