Luís Simões and Sidul pilot digital freight documentation in Portugal

Luís Simões and Sidul have developed an e-CMR model that digitizes nearly all documentation associated with their road freight transport operations. The system, implemented since early 2024, manages the transport of goods between Sidul’s factory in Póvoa de Santa Iria and Luís Simões’ warehouses.

This digital transition aims to reduce paper usage, improve traceability, and accelerate administrative processes such as invoicing and incident management. The initiative has been selected by the Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT) to participate in a pilot project under the European eFTI (Electronic Freight Transport Information) initiative.

A real-world test was conducted in July involving the IMT and the National Republican Guard (GNR) to evaluate how authorities can electronically access and verify cargo information during roadside inspections. The results of this pilot will contribute to the development of the future National eFTI Portal.
