Lusa Board appoints Diana Ramos as new Information Director
The Board of Directors of the Lusa news agency has invited journalist Diana Ramos, currently the director of Jornal de Negócios, to serve as the agency's new Information Director. The appointment follows the departure of Luísa Meireles, who led the department for eight years before leaving on October 12.
Lusa's Board stated that the nomination followed legal procedures, including requests for opinions from the Media Regulatory Authority (ERC) and the Editorial Council (CR). Once the opinions are received, Ramos will present her new information management team.
The Editorial Council has requested an urgent opinion from the ERC regarding the legality of the appointment. The Council raised concerns about whether the Board's actions comply with the European Media Freedom Act and the Press Law, specifically questioning if the Board's request for an opinion was made with sufficient notice to the Council. The Council seeks clarification on whether the Board's expressed doubts regarding the regulatory framework constitute adequate conditions for appointing a permanent director for Portugal's sole public news agency.
