Lusa news agency faces allegations of editorial interference
Elected members of the Lusa news agency's Editorial Council (CR) have raised concerns regarding administrative decisions that may allow the Board of Directors to interfere in editorial matters. During a hearing in the Culture, Communication, Youth and Sports Commission of the Portuguese Parliament, representatives Joana Ramos Simões and Paulo Agostinho stated they have received documentary evidence of such interference.
Agostinho specifically highlighted the existence of irregular contracts that allegedly violate the Statute of Journalists. These contracts reportedly require certain journalists to perform duties beyond their professional scope. The Editorial Council is currently analyzing these documents, which involve additional contracts for specific individuals, and is seeking legal protections to ensure the agency's autonomy from political or partisan influence.
