Lusío village faces slow recovery one year after devastating wildfire
One year after a devastating wildfire reduced the village of Lusío, in the municipality of Oencia, to ashes, reconstruction efforts remain significantly delayed. The fire, which occurred between August 16 and 17, forced the evacuation of approximately fifty people and destroyed most of the local housing.
Currently, only two prefabricated homes have been partially rebuilt out of the eight originally planned. Residents report that the process is moving very slowly, citing difficulties in accessing aid. Many of the destroyed properties were secondary residences, which has reportedly complicated the distribution of subsidies compared to primary residences.
Despite the slow progress and fears that the village may face permanent abandonment, local descendants express hope that the community can resurge and be ready for summer visitors by next year.
