Lusophone diplomats discuss culinary connections at Paris Gastronomy Festival
At the Paris International Gastronomy Festival, diplomats and representatives from Angola, Portugal, and Brazil discussed the culinary connections within the Lusophone community. The discussion highlighted how the exchange of food products, which began significantly in the 15th century, has shaped global eating habits.
Jorge Barreto Xavier, cultural advisor at the Portuguese Embassy in France, noted that the historical circulation of goods—such as pepper and mangoes from India to Brazil, or sugarcane from Africa to Brazil—has fundamentally transformed diets. The dialogue also touched upon the importance of developing sustainable, non-intensive culinary practices in response to modern food crises.
