Luster wins 167th running of the King’s Plate at Woodbine

The filly Luster secured a dominant victory in the 167th running of the King’s Plate at Woodbine Racetrack. Ridden by Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez, Luster won by 7 1/4 lengths, beating a field of male and female opponents in the $1 million purse race.

Luster entered the race as a heavy favorite, with bettors wagering a record $1,242,081. The victory marks the third King’s Plate win for trainer Josie Carroll. Following this performance, Luster is expected to target the Grade I Queen Elizabeth Cup at Keeneland in October.

Other notable results from the race card included Military Time finishing second and Fire and Wine taking third. The event featured several other stakes races, including wins by Gas Me Up in the Grade II King Edward and Proctor Street in the Grade II Canadian.
