LUT University halts cooperation plans with Xamk
The Board of LUT University has decided to halt preparations for two proposed cooperation models with South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk). The options under consideration included deepening cooperation within the existing structure and a model where Xamk would become an ownership part of LUT University.
The decision was driven by changes in the operating environment, the scale of required investments, and associated risks. The board noted that the growth potential of new campuses in Xamk's owner cities appeared limited relative to the investment size. Instead, LUT intends to focus its resources on implementing its growth strategy in Lappeenranta and Lahti, leveraging the service and productivity benefits of its joint campus structures.
While the formal restructuring plans have been abandoned, current cooperation with Xamk will continue as normal. The board emphasized that LUT remains committed to high-level research and industry cooperation within the South-Eastern Finland and South Savo regions.
