Luther Tarpeh faces calls to resign as Lone Star Mobilization Chairman
Sylvanus Morris, President of the Clubs Presidents Association of Liberia (CPAL), has called for the immediate removal of Rev. Dr. Luther Tarpeh as Chairman of the Lone Star National Team Mobilization Committee. The demand follows controversial social media remarks made by Tarpeh, who also serves as Chairman of the ruling Unity Party (UP).
Tarpeh faced backlash for using derogatory language toward supporters of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) on Facebook. Critics argue that such divisive rhetoric undermines the committee’s mission to build national consensus and mobilize support for the national football team, which is currently struggling in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The controversy comes amid financial challenges facing the Lone Star, including a proposed US$5 million fundraising target. Observers have raised questions regarding transparency, fund control, and the role of various government and sports entities in managing the team’s resources.
