Lux Express extends Riga–Klaipeda bus route due to high demand
Lux Express has extended its Riga–Liepaja–Palanga–Klaipeda bus route until January 3, 2027, following unexpectedly strong passenger demand during the off-season. Originally intended as a seasonal service, the route has seen passenger numbers between Riga and Klaipeda increase by 16%, with current demand levels comparable to those seen in May.
The extension ensures continued connectivity between Latvian and Lithuanian cities through the autumn, winter, and the New Year holiday period. While local residents remain the primary passenger group, the company noted a rise in international tourism, specifically an 8% increase in travelers from Germany compared to 2025 levels.
Aldis Ķibēns of Lux Express Latvia stated that Riga is increasingly serving as a starting point for international tourists exploring the Baltic region, which provides a positive signal for regional tourism beyond the traditional summer months.
