Luxeed S800 challenges traditional luxury brands in China sales
New sales data for vehicles priced above 700,000 yuan in China from January to July shows significant competition between traditional luxury brands and emerging domestic electric vehicle manufacturers. The Land Rover Range Rover leads the segment with 7,755 units sold, followed closely by the Luxeed S800 with 7,348 units. The Luxeed S800's performance marks a notable entry for domestic brands in the ultra-high-end market, surpassing the Porsche Cayenne, which recorded 7,006 sales.
Other top performers in this price bracket include the Toyota Alphard, Maybach S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The rankings indicate that while established luxury names still hold many positions, domestic high-end models are increasingly capable of competing directly with global luxury leaders.
In a separate development regarding product positioning, Luxeed Executive Director Zhao Changjiang discussed the upcoming Luxeed RX. He described the RX as a driver-oriented model focused on intelligent technology and extreme handling, aiming to create a new product form similar to how Huawei's Pura series evolves beyond simple upgrades. The RX is positioned as a premium offering with pre-sale prices starting between 299,800 and 359,800 yuan, featuring options for lidar and L3-level autonomous driving architecture.
