Luxembourg addresses housing and mobility challenges

Luxembourg is implementing various strategies to address housing shortages and improve urban mobility. To combat recruitment and retention difficulties caused by high real estate costs, companies and institutions are exploring dedicated housing solutions. The Chambre des métiers, in collaboration with AGORA, has launched a pilot project in the Belvie district of Belval to provide 37 affordable housing units specifically for employees in the artisanal sector. This initiative is supported by a newly forming social impact company, Chambre des métiers Services.

In a separate urban development effort, the City of Luxembourg has unveiled a soft mobility concept as part of its long-term mobility plan, which aims for completion by 2035. Following a €356,000 study by Gehl, the city will focus on improving its cycling network by targeting 21 corridors and 30 connection points. While the pedestrian network is considered well-adapted, the new infrastructure improvements will prioritize safety, comfort, attractiveness, and directness for cyclists.
