Luxembourg City tops livability ranking as German historic old towns are ranked

A Deutsche Bank study called “Mapping the World’s Prices 2026” placed Luxembourg City at the top of the global livability ranking, ahead of Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Vienna and Munich. The report highlighted the city’s high purchasing power, free public transport, strong safety and medical services, and relatively short commuting times, while noting that housing costs remain extremely high.

Separately, a German tourism portal released a ranking of the most attractive historic city centres for short trips within Germany. Quedlinburg in Saxony‑Anhalt claimed the number‑one spot, with other top Bavarian towns such as Regensburg (second), Bamberg (third) and Augsburg (eighteenth) also featuring prominently. The assessment weighed factors including historic architecture, walkability, accommodation options and cost of food and drink.
