Alpac Capital takes control of Adria News Network amid regulatory warnings
The Luxembourg government has warned of potential sanctions following leadership changes at several media outlets within the Adria News Network (ANN), including N1, Nova S, Radar, and Danas. These management shifts, led by the Portuguese investment fund Alpac Capital, occurred before the Luxembourgish regulator ALIA officially approved the sale of the network from United Group.
In Serbia, the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications issued an open letter to Alpac Capital owner Pedro Vargas Santos David, demanding that N1 and Nova S register with the Serbian regulator (REM). The Ministry characterized the outlets as political actors serving the opposition. The Independent Journalists Association of Serbia (NUNS) has condemned this move as unacceptable political pressure intended to undermine editorial independence.
Alpac Capital has already taken management control of ANN assets across Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia. While N1 maintains that its editorial standards and professional principles remain unchanged, the transaction remains subject to regulatory scrutiny in multiple jurisdictions.
