Luxembourg crackdown on key‑relay car thefts leads to arrests

A family's vehicle was stolen in Luxembourg in a matter of seconds without any sign of forced entry. Police explained that the thieves used a key‑relay (mouse‑jacking) technique that intercepted the radio signal from a key left inside the house, allowing the car to be unlocked and started remotely.

Separately, Luxembourgish authorities announced the dismantling of a fourth international network that had stolen around twenty high‑value SUVs over recent months, causing losses of several million euros. Two suspects were arrested in France on July 24 after coordinated action by the Grand Ducal Police and French judicial police, supported by European arrest warrants. Searches seized sophisticated electronic equipment designed to carry out the relay attacks.
