Luxembourg donor provides life-saving bone marrow to two-year-old
A man named Sven, who registered as a potential stem cell donor eight years ago through the Luxembourgish initiative Plooschter Projet, has successfully donated bone marrow to a two-year-old boy.
Unlike the 90 percent of donations collected from blood, Sven’s donation required a bone marrow puncture of the pelvic bone under general anesthesia. Despite the intensity of the procedure and subsequent muscle soreness, Sven expressed a sense of hope that his donation would provide a second chance at life for the child.
