Luxembourg Leads World in GDP per Capita as UAE Tops Wealth Inequality Rankings
International Monetary Fund data shows Luxembourg will remain the wealthiest nation in 2026 with a nominal GDP per capita of about $158,700, followed by Ireland, which has risen to the second spot with a per‑capita output above $140,000. Nine of the top fifteen richest countries are European, while Singapore, the United States, Macau, Australia, Israel and Qatar also appear among the leaders. At the opposite end, Mozambique is projected to have a per‑capita GDP of roughly $720.
The UBS Global Wealth Report for 2026 reveals that the United Arab Emirates and Russia share the highest wealth Gini index of 82, indicating extreme concentration of wealth. South Africa and Brazil follow with a Gini of 81, and Saudi Arabia and the United States rank 78 and 77 respectively. The United States hosts 23.6 million millionaires—about 41 % of the global total—and ranks second in average wealth per adult, though its median wealth places it only 28th, highlighting stark internal disparity. In contrast, Europe shows the lowest wealth concentration, with Slovakia posting the lowest Gini of 38 and several other European nations such as Belgium, Italy and France remaining well below 60.
