Luxembourg students win historic silver at robotics competition in South Korea

A team of students from Luxembourg’s Lycée français Vauban secured a historic silver medal at the 2026 FIRST Global Challenge in Incheon, South Korea. Known as the ‘Olympics of robotics,’ the competition featured 185 high school teams from around the world.

The MS20 makerspace team, consisting of students Cléa, Esteban, Alix, Côme, and Léonore, achieved the country’s first-ever podium finish at the event. This marks Luxembourg’s third appearance in the competition, following previous participations in 2022 and 2023.

To reach the finals, the Luxembourg team formed an international alliance with representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Japan, and Hong Kong. In the final round, the alliance scored 1,016 points, finishing 44 points behind the first-place team led by an alliance of Uzbekistan, Moldova, Venezuela, and El Salvador.
