Luxembourg tops IMF 2025 list of richest nations by GDP per capita

The International Monetary Fund’s 2025 data rank Luxembourg as the world’s richest country by gross domestic product per capita, at $140,941. It is followed by Ireland ($108,919) and Switzerland ($104,896). The top five also includes Singapore ($92,932) and Iceland ($90,284). The remainder of the top ten are Norway ($89,694), the United States ($89,105), Macau ($76,314), Denmark ($74,969) and Qatar ($71,653).

All but the United States have populations under 10 million, which amplifies their per‑person output. Analysts note that GDP per capita does not capture income distribution, cost of living, or purchasing‑power differences; when adjusted for purchasing‑power parity, rankings shift, benefiting countries such as Qatar and Singapore.
