Luxembourg's 'Gielt Band' Initiative Lets Residents Pick Free Fruit

Municipal workers in Esch‑sur‑Sûre and Larochette have marked apple, pear and plum trees with yellow ribbons. A yellow ribbon signals that the fruit may be harvested free of charge for personal use, helping to prevent food waste.

The action is part of the "Gielt Band" anti‑waste campaign organised by Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture together with the municipal union SYVICOL. Residents are invited to join the effort, request ribbons for their own trees and share surplus harvests.
