Luxlait to take over milk collection from Lactalis in Luxembourg

Luxembourgish cooperative Luxlait is set to take over milk collection from Lactalis for 68 dairy farmers organized under Prolek. The transition is scheduled to begin at the end of March 2027.

Lactalis previously decided to cease collection from these producers, who deliver approximately 55 million liters of milk annually to the Ekabe dairy. The company cited high volatility in international dairy ingredient markets, increased competition, and reduced European competitiveness as reasons for the decision. Lactalis stated it is committed to supporting Prolek producers in finding alternative solutions.

This acquisition is expected to significantly increase Luxlait’s operations. Currently collecting about 170 million liters per year from 300 members, the addition of Prolek’s volume would represent a 32% increase, bringing Luxlait’s total to approximately 225 million liters.
