Luxor prepares for rare total solar eclipse in 2027

The city of Luxor, Egypt, is preparing for a rare total solar eclipse scheduled for August 2, 2027. This astronomical event is expected to be one of the longest total eclipses of the 21st century, with the phenomenon lasting approximately 6 minutes and 22 seconds within the city.

Due to the rarity of the event, which will not be seen with such duration again until 2114, interest is already high. Reports indicate that over 90% of available accommodations in Luxor have already been booked through online platforms. The eclipse path will pass over significant historical sites, including the Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, and the Temple of Hatshepsut.

To manage the anticipated influx of tourists and astronomers, Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, has formed a committee to organize special events and ensure a safe, organized experience for visitors. The region's clear skies and low cloud cover in August are expected to provide ideal viewing conditions for the phenomenon.
