Luxury football World Cup bags spark social media craze

During the FIFA World Cup, wives and partners of football stars showcased ultra‑luxury handbags, some priced above R$200,000 (US$15,000‑100,000). Brands such as Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Goyard were featured on airport arrivals and hotel entrances, turning the events into fashion runways.

A Brazilian survey by MeuPatrocínio found that, besides handbags, international travel, high‑end property and imported cars are the top status symbols women look for in a partner. Lionel Messi attracted particular attention with a bespoke Hermès Cargo HAC Birkin 40. The trend is being discussed as a new way for elite football figures to signal wealth and exclusivity.

The phenomenon has generated a wave of social‑media posts, highlighting the intersection of sport, celebrity culture and high‑end fashion.
