France luxury retailers fortify stores amid protest fears

Luxury boutiques across France are boarding up storefronts and hiring private security in anticipation of new demonstrations. This defensive measure follows a weekend of unrest where rioters damaged or looted approximately 3,000 shops in cities including Paris, Marseille, and Bordeaux.

Protests are being driven by high costs of living and public service cuts. Groups such as the National Union of Students in France and the ‘Yellow Vests’ movement have planned marches, leading the French Ministry of the Interior to deploy 70,000 police officers to manage the situation.

In Paris, several major museums, including the Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, Picasso Museum, and Grand Palais, have closed due to security concerns. High-end brands such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Celine, Hermès, Saint Laurent, Rolex, and De Beers have also taken precautions, with some locations remaining closed or operating with reduced hours to mitigate risk.
