Luxury electric SUV market sees competition from Mercedes-AMG and Omoda

The luxury electric SUV market is seeing significant movement from both established premium manufacturers and emerging Chinese brands.

Mercedes-AMG has introduced the AMG GT SUV, built on the EA platform. The lineup includes 53, 55, and 63 variants, all featuring 122 kWh batteries. The top-tier 63 model delivers 1,169 horsepower, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and reaching 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. High-speed charging capabilities are notable, with the larger models supporting up to 710 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 12 minutes. Range estimates vary between 525 and 700 kilometers.

Simultaneously, Chinese manufacturer Omoda is expanding its presence in the European market with the Omoda 9. This nearly five-meter-long SUV targets the premium segment by focusing on high-end technology and interior comfort, including features such as massage and ventilated front seats. While positioned to compete with established luxury models, the vehicle emphasizes a high level of interior assembly and technological integration.
